On Friday night I was spoilt rotten and treated to a fabulous meal at the very exclusive Electric in Portabello road. http://www.electricbrasserie.com/#8***1***2The meal consisted of potted mushrooms, baked cod (doing ok so far) followed by warm chocolate brownie with vanilla icecream and oodles of very expensive, very delicious and very more-ish wine (ahem). I decided I had to run off the sins of Friday night on Saturday morning, well it was more like Saturday afternoon before my head/stomach would allow me to get up off the couch. Anyway off I trotted, having been given very vague directions to Notting Hill via Portabello road market. The person who gave me directions obviously doesn't go jogging......as I hit the market my jog came to an abrupt halt. (note to self) a busy Saturday morning market and anything faster than a very slow, meandering stroll do not mix...you can't dodge around anyone as the are no spaces to dodge in to.
So, I go just off the beaten track and manage about 4 miles around the area, which is vibrant and quaint with lots of antiquey shops and pastel painted town houses. I finally arrived in Notting Hill Gate for an impromptu hot chocolate with Mary, an old friend (old as in known a long time, as in she's not actually old).
The rest of the weekend consisted of chatting, eating, drinking and zero exercise, so on Sunday we decided to sweat it out .......at a spa in Porchester. The spa was not far from Paddington station so was ideal really as I had a train to catch back to Bristol at 5pm. Compared to the Relaxation centre in Clifton, Bristol it was busier, noisier and didn't have enough showers, however-it did have huge lockers and an INDOOR plunge pool. Very relaxing but not a patch on Bath Thermae Spahttp://www.thermaebathspa.com/ where I shall be going to next month with my girlfriends for my 'turning of decade' birthday. I am actually looking forward to the Monday morning negotiate-with-grim reaper bike ride to help wear off the weekend's indulgences.....
