I have been a 'jogger' on and off for 10 years, sometimes in more serious mode than others (the present being pretty poor in comparison). One thing I have always noticed is that the level of my fitness makes little difference to the same thing, the first 4 miles...in my book they are always the worst, always. I am not entirely sure why that is? whether it's just getting into the rhythm, carb release stuff, biomechanics, some other fandango the mags throw at me or, as at the moment I'm averaging 4-5 milers, is it that it simply gets easier knowing I'm nearly home...I have my suspicions.
I have been a bit slack on the running last week managing two 4 milers (and I wonder why i complain about the first 4 miles....surely that means that I'm moaning about the whole thing?....probably). So in an effort to resolve the whole situation I've decided to read some books/articles/blogs on the whole nutrition/performance thing and will let you know.
