I have been a slacker; for not blogging and for simply not doing much on the running front. I do feel I have an excuse on both parts; I have not been able to do much due to a fractured rib, plus it's a jogging blog and I haven't actually been jogging much of late.... and, it is without doubt, without jogging stories I'd have ended up ranting on about theiving, corrupt politicians running our country. A recession brought on by the greed and avarice of the intellegent and powerful few & the ignorance and selfishness of the herded masses...I could go on..but thankfully, due to two things, I managed to get back out there even if it was to find out just how quickly I've lost fitness levels.
Firstly; the return of my mojo, it took a temporary leave of absence but has made it's way slowly back. Secondly; the very young, very fit, very tall, very fit, very young, very fit physio in work....and no before you ask!
I broke my ribs a few weeks ago and then, stupidly, tried a run far too soon, after the discomfort that it caused I decided to rest up and take sensible advice. For once. I was expecting to make a full, pain-free recovery over the following weeks, alas! it was not to be. The pain I was getting had changed from a sore-broken-ribs feeling to a deeper cramping pain in my right side, there was good news and bad news.
Having tracked down the very young, very fit, very young, very tall, very fit, very fit physio in work, it turned out that the pain was not my liver complaining (phew, yey), it was a muscle that was spasming causing it to pull two ribs together closing the space between them, and in the words of the very young, very fit, very tall, very fit physio, the ribs needed repositioning...what the?.....suffice to say, it turned out that the bear hug I recieved was infact a vice-like grip to stop me from hitting the ceiling whilst said rib was 'repositioned', I'll spare you the language. It hurt, a lot, however it worked! and a few days later I managed a couple of runs....well slow short jogs anyway and although I had to miss Bristol 10k, the Bristol Half is back on my radar... well, if I actually manage to stay injury free long enough to do any sort of meaningful training....that is.

I had a similar thing a few years back with a rib out of place and yes, it is very painful. Glad you're slowly getting fixed. Welcome back!
Broken ribs? Well done for getting back into it, I'd be using that as an excuse for at least a year.
Thanks for the link too.
